STAR Certified Stations are smog check facilities that meet higher performance standards set by the Bureau of Automotive Repair. These stations are authorized to perform all types of smog checks, including those for directed vehicles (vehicles referred to STAR Stations by the DMV), ownership changes, out-of-state vehicles, and gross-polluting vehicles. Non-STAR Certified Stations are not authorized to certify most older model vehicles or high-emission vehicles.​
